The power behind a well executed CV.

January 25, 2017

Many people underestimate the power of a well executed CV or resume.

If you are a graduate, school leaver or looking for your next role, your CV is an essential marketing tool. It sells your experience, knowledge and skills to potential employers. It says 'look at me, I am the right person for this job.' From my experience though, many resumes tend to say the exact opposite.

Your CV is a reflection of yourself and where you are at a certain point in your life. If your CV is poorly written and formatted, employers will think this is what your work will be like too and your CV will be over looked.

In my opinion, a great CV will be well written, structured in a professional way, be honest and fit for the purpose of getting you that dream job.

In many cases when I receive someone's CV to review, it tends to not be the best representation of them. Once I have gleamed all the information needed and worked some of my magic, I often see a change in the person's attitude. A well written and executed CV brings with it confidence and pride. People tell me that they feel more confident to apply for jobs they might well have shied away from.

This is why we are expanding our CV writing service. We enjoy seeing the difference a well written CV or LinkedIn Profile makes to our clients. Therefore, we are now reviewing clients CVs for free. We will inform you if your CV needs to be re-written and if so, what needs to be done to help make your CV shine. We can re-write your CV, LinkedIn profile and cover letter to the standards that recruiters are looking for. We can also go through interview techniques and advise you on the best way to tackle the interview situation.

The common problems with many CVs that I review are that they are too long, have irrelevant information or they are poorly formatted and have grammatical errors.

Below are a few tips to make sure your CV shines:

1) Ensure your email address and phone number are up-to-date. If they aren't, recruiters won't be able to contact you, rendering your CV useless;

2) Always accompany your CV with a cover letter that is specifically written for the job you are applying for;

3) Make sure there aren't any grammatical errors;

4) Always be truthful in your CV;

5) Make sure your CV is completely up to date and has little empty space;

6) Before going to an interview read up about the company and compile some facts that you can bring up in the interview situation.
